Welcome to my first post on my new blog. Recently I was under the weather and bedbound for a couple of weeks. Since I love vintage and antique jewelry, I decided to create some works of art. As an antique dealer I always have jewelry and interesting parts of old furniture, purses, and clothing hanging around. Here's my first atempt at a re-purposed necklace which I SOLD already! This necklace was made out of an old shoe clip, lock and key, earring, charm and cameo.

This necklace is made from and old drawer pull and old key!
This necklace has a more dainty feel to it. The heart on the bottom was made by a soldier during WWII.
I love this goldtone necklace. It was made with a piece of a vintage purse and a vintage pin.
Here's my copper beauty! I used copper chains, a rhinestone and a real vintage copper pin!
I had fun creating this three tier necklace with an old key and old broach. The black and gold tones will compliment any outfit.
As you can see I like long necklaces. I will be creating some shorter ones as well. This elegant piece has lots of pearl and pale lavander stones as well as a splash of bling with a large rhinestone accent.

ReplyDeleteI want to suggest one thing, and advise you--on nothing :) !!! All you need is curiosity and talent, and you already have that!
Here is the suggestion:
#1) I do not know if you are on Facebook, but a wonderful jewelry designer who writes a blog and also posts on Facebook is having her (could it be 7th???) blog hop. The sign ups are next weekend. My suggestion for you, because I see NOTHING here but beauty, is that you sign up for this very well run, very clear, wonderful blog hop. You get plenty of time after signing up.

but you (and everyone else) has to wait until next weekend to actually sign up.
The interesting and great thing is that you will get a partner picked by Lori, the hostess of the Bead Soup blog hop.
Your assigned partner will be sending you the beads YOU will be working with--and YOU will be sending your partner the beads SHE will work with!
The requirement is that later on, on the "big reveal" day, you must have a blog (which you do!) and show using photos what you have made, and link to your partner. Earlier on you will have shown the beads you received, in loose form. It is part of the fun!
It is a great way to get tons of traffic to your blog and also to have a good time and challenge yourself! I will be doing my 4th Bead Soup blog hop. It is completely worth it.
My last partner,last summer, Dana Hickey was so astounding with what she did with the beads which I sent her I am writing about her in my magazine for the upcoming issue!
As for your work. I cannot believe you are asking me how I like your work. I love it, of course! Another thing I am writing about in my mag. as a "trend" at the moment is "repurposing". You really have the right balance and a great eye for this jewelry style.

PS: I forgot to mention: I have two I like the best: The bottom one is very cool and so pretty.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have a soft spot for soldiers--my father's great uncle was a balloonist in WWI and died of that terrible scourge of the time, influenza. My great great uncle's name was Robert, as was my father's. My father Robert fought in WWII from DDay+4, traveling over from the US on the Queen Mary at age 19.
He was a forward observer for the 9th infantry. He served until the end of the War, along with his own father, who was called back to duty, and his brother Mac.
And of course our son Robert was named for him (as are half the kids and grandkids in the family--he was such a great guy!). So I do like the carved heart by the soldier. It is very moving to me.

DeleteVery interesting WWII stories of your family. My dad met and married my English mom during WWII. My brother was born there. My mom and brother stowed away on a ship to get to America after the war. I'm actually writing a book about it now. so I love that necklace too.
